Bio
My name is Hae Soup, and I am a first generation queer Korean American adoptee storyteller currently homed on Duwamish/Coast Salish land. I was born in Seoul, Korea and displaced from my native homeland via international adoption in 1994. I am the proud child of Jo Eun Mi and continue to honor our omma’s legacy through seeking to embody the 미역국 | miyeokguk she prepared for us after 22 years of separation.
My artistic practice is a love letter to myself and the constellation of families who have shaped and continue to nourish me. My journey is a reflection of an ever evolving conversation with my past, stories that have been passed down, family secrets I’ve been asked to keep, and new stories I am just beginning to write. Through my art, I hope to make a home for myself that imagines a more loving, liberated, and delicious world for us all to unapologetically live in.
It’s an honor to share a piece of who I am with you, and I hope my art offers you a sense of companionship as you bear witness to the unfolding of your life’s own sacred stories.
